
Shawn Johnson
Shawn Johnson is an Associate of the Center for Natural Resources and Environmental Policy at the University of Montana, where he is engaged in the Center’s efforts to help citizens and leaders shape public policy to sustain communities and landscapes in regional, trans-boundary contexts. In this regard, Shawn has conducted interviews with elected officials and key stakeholders, prepared situation assessments, organized conferences and workshops on the topic of regional collaboration, and written several case studies of successful trans-boundary efforts. A key focus of his research in this arena has been the use of decision-support technology to assist stakeholders in planning processes.
In his spare time, Shawn is pursuing a PhD in Environmental Policy at the School of Natural Resources & Environment at the University of Michigan. He previously received a Master’s in Public Affairs from Princeton University, where he focused on science, technology, and environmental policy. From 2000-2003, Shawn served as a legislative assistant on education, workforce, and economic development issues to U.S. Senator Max Baucus. Shawn, his wife, Helen, and their two dogs live in Helena, Montana.
